We look ahead to this weekend’s Super Touring Power 2 festival at Brands Hatch, detailing the cars and the drivers on the grid for this weekend’s celebration of everything Super Touring.
Anthony Reid – Nissan Primera
One of the headline entries on the list is BTCC legend Anthony Reid, who will be reunited with the Nissan Primera he raced in 1998. This is the same car that Anthony used to secure 7 victories and finish 2nd in the championship for Nissan.
Steve Soper – BMW 320i
Another former BTCC star taking to the grid is Steve Soper, who will be racing a BMW that was built in 1997 and raced in the Italian Super Touring Championship by Fabrizio De Simone. In 2019, the car was returned to its original livery and seeing Steve back at the wheel of the BMW will undoubtedly bring back a lot of memories for fans.

Jake Hill – Nissan Primera
Jake Hill, the current BTCC championship leader, will drive a Nissan Primera originally raced to the BTCC title by Laurent Aiello in 1999. Aiello will also be present at the event, providing an opportunity to see him reunited with the car in which he won the BTCC title.
Tony Absolom – Vauxhall Cavalier
Tony Absolom will debut in Super Touring Power this year, driving his Vauxhall Cavalier, which was the last RML-built Cavalier. The car served as the test car for the Vauxhall team in 1995 and eventually made its racing debut with Anthony Reid at the 1995 FIA World Cup event for Opel Team Japan.
After that, the car was returned to the BTCC and was raced by Richard Kaye in 1996 and the car remains in the livery from that season.
Jason Hughes – Vauxhall Vectra
Former BTCC racer Jason Hughes has returned to the track with his Vauxhall Vectra, which he purchased in 2018. The car was originally only partially built for the 2000 season, but never completed. The build was finished in 2003 after being sold off and has now been restored to the 2000 Vauxhall BTCC livery.

Matty Evans – Vauxhall Cavalier
This car was originally built by RML in 1993 for the Spa 24 hour race – driven by David Leslie, Philippe Adams and Bernard De Dryver. It was later driven in the BTCC by Chris Goodwin. In 1996, the car was updated to 1995 spec and was sold to Ian Heward, who raced the car in the Total Cup in 1996 & 1997, to limited success.
Colin Sowter – Peugeot 406
The beautiful Peugeot 406 owned by Colin Sowter returns to Super Touring Power this year. The car was built by MSD in 1998 and was raced in period by Paul Radisich during the BTCC that season.
Steffan Irmler – Opel Astra
Another MSD built car on the grid, the unusual Opel Astra, which was built in 1994 for the South African Touring Car Championship, where it was driven by Mike Briggs. It was later raced by John Cleland in the International Touring Car Challenge.

Richard Wheeler – Nissan Primera
Richard Wheeler returns to the festival with his Nissan Primera, which was raced by David Leslie in the 1999 British Touring Car Championship, before being shipped off to race in the Swedish Touring Car Championship in 2000 by Tommy Rustad.
Jim Pocklington – Vauxhall Cavalier
Another former BTCC racer, Jim Pocklington, will be racing his Vauxhall Cavalier at the event. The car was built by Dave Cook Racing Services in late 1989 for the 1990 season, originally in RWD form and raced by Chris Hodgetts. It served as the spare car for the team in the 1991 season and was used after Jeff Allam’s crash at Donington Park.
AJ Owen – Ford Mondeo
AJ Owen is bringing his Ford Mondeo back to Super Touring Power. The car, built in 1993 by Andy Rouse Engineering as a test car for the team’s RWD configuration, was later switched back to FWD and used as a spare when the team opted to run FWD instead.

Stuart Caie – Vauxhall Cavalier
CTCRC chairman Stuart Caie will once again bring out his Vauxhall Cavalier, originally built by RML in 1994. The car first raced in the 1994 Touring Car World Cup at Donington Park with John Cleland behind the wheel, before being sent to South Africa for Mike Briggs to race in the 1995 South African Touring Car Championship. It now sports the 1994 Vauxhall BTCC livery.
Robert Salisbury – Honda Accord
Robert Salisbury brings his Honda Accord to Super Touring Power for the first time this weekend. The car was originally built by Prodrive and raced by Paula Cook in the BTCC during the 1998 and 1999 season. When bought by Robert in 2020, it was painted in the 1998 BTCC Honda livery.

James Kellett – Mazda 323
Last but not least, James Kellett will once again be driving the unique Mazda 323. The car was originally built by Roger Dowson Engineering and entered into the 1995 BTCC with Slim Borgudd, but the car never made it to the grid and subsequently spent several years in storage.
